Heather Hines - Multi-instrumentalist, Music Therapist

Inline image
Alto saxophone player Heather Hines found her love for music at a young age. Starting on the piano and picking up the saxophone in grade school, she played in concert bands, jazz bands and drumline throughout her school years.

Heather graduated from Acadia University where she studied music therapy, gaining experience on guitar and voice, and completing her Grade 10 in piano with the Royal Conservatory. After graduation she lived in New Brunswick for a year, completing an internship where she worked in long-term care and in community mental health groups, providing music therapy services throughout Saint John. In 2015 Heather moved to Burlington from her home in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.

Currently Heather is a music therapist working with clients living with Alzheimer’s, dementia and a variety of mental health illnesses at long-term care homes in the St Catharines and Hamilton areas. She also provides adapted music lessons for young adults with special needs. Weeknights she teaches for Beyond the Studio, which offers in-home lessons on piano and guitar in the Burlington/Oakville area.

Heather loves to be outdoors and is looking forward to the summer season to find some trails and explore more of Southern Ontario. (Although she misses the salt air and breeze of the ocean.)
